13 November, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. Polotsk border guards detained a large consignment of cigarettes while attempting to smuggle them into Latvia, Denis Glebko, assistant head of the Polotsk Border Guard Detachment for Media Relations, informed a BELTA correspondent.

At the "Urbany" checkpoint, during the inspection of a MAN truck driven by a Lithuanian citizen, a hidden compartment was discovered in the inner part of the trailer containing almost 72 thousand packs of tobacco products. The illegal cargo, valued at Br387 million, and the vehicle, valued at Br250 million, have been seized.

The driver faces confiscation of the vehicle and administrative liability.-0-
