One and a half ten-day precipitation norms fell in three days, from January 20-22, in Vitebsk, Lyudmila Borodenok, leading engineer-meteorologist of the Vitebsk Regional Centre for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring, told a BELTA correspondent. Heavy snowfalls mainly affected the northern districts of the region: Gorodok, Orsha, Senno, where the current snow cover depth is 17-21 cm, in Vitebsk - 26 cm. In the southern regions of the region, the snow depth is insignificant and ranges from 11 cm to 14 cm. Precipitation will occur in the region in the coming days, Lyudmila Borodenok noted. She added that a cold snap will begin in the region from the middle of the week. At night, the air temperature will drop to minus 12-17 degrees Celsius, with clear spells - to minus 18-23 degrees. During the day, the thermometer will show minus 9-14 degrees Celsius. Difficult weather conditions have caused more concerns for utility and road workers. Minor power outages were recorded by energy providers: over three days, 19 settlements and three farms in Liozno and Braslav districts were de-energized due to bad weather. All malfunctions were promptly eliminated. To prevent negative consequences and ensure the stable functioning of life support facilities, a headquarters for monitoring and eliminating the consequences of snowfall has been established in the Vitebsk region.-0-
