The branded district festival "Cranes and Cranberries of the Miory Region" will take place on September 16. For seven years now, it has annually gathered nature lovers from all over Belarus, as well as guests from other countries. The venue and time for this unusual event were not chosen by chance: it is in this autumn month that the cranberry harvesting season begins here, and the local Yalnya bog holds the first place in Belarus for its cranberry reserves. In addition, annually over 4,000 grey cranes and tens of thousands of geese of various species stop at Yalnya to rest during their autumn migration. Participants of the ecological festival will have the opportunity to observe large flocks of birds and take unforgettable photos. For convenience, a free bus will take everyone from the district centre to the surrounding fields with birds, which feed there during daylight hours. Excursions will be accompanied by professional ornithologists.
The festive programme of the day also includes other interesting events. The handicraft exhibition and sale "Crane Treasury" and the book "Eco-Yard" will be open, a competition of rural homesteads will be held, and children's play and family sports and games programmes are planned. On this day, the best cranberry suppliers, winners of the district landscaping competition, the rural homestead competition, and the cranberry harvesting competition, which took place in the run-up to the main festival day, will be awarded.
