21 August, Minsk /Tatyana Grigurovich - BELTA/. The procedure for classifying districts as unfavourable for agricultural production has been approved in Belarus. The relevant provision is enshrined in Resolution of the Council of Ministers No. 796 of 15 August 2014, which was officially published today on the National Legal Internet Portal, BELTA reports.

The document has been developed in accordance with Decree No. 347 of 17 July of the current year "On State Agrarian Policy".

According to the resolution, a district is recognised as unfavourable for agricultural production if, due to natural-climatic, soil, ecological and socio-economic indicators (factors), it is not possible to organise highly profitable production by entities engaged in agro-industrial production, with the exception of citizens maintaining personal farms.

Among the criteria for classifying districts as unfavourable for agricultural production are, in particular, the average percentage of crop failure (cereals, rapeseed) over the three preceding years due to adverse natural and climatic conditions; the cadastral valuation score of agricultural land for agricultural purposes; the proportion of agricultural land contaminated with caesium-137 and strontium-90 radionuclides at levels of 1 Ci/sq. km and above, and 0.15 Ci/sq. km and above, respectively, in the total area of agricultural land for agricultural purposes during the reporting period. The proportion of the working-age population in the total population residing in the district and the level of registered unemployment for the last reporting year will also be taken into account.

The list of districts classified as unfavourable for agricultural production will be compiled once every five years.

The resolution comes into force on 1 January 2015.-0-
