Summer fish die-offs are typically observed during the hot season (June-July) with high water temperatures in water bodies heavily overgrown with blue-green algae, which give the water a dark green colour. The more silted the water body, the worse the conditions for fish. Additionally, due to the flooding of river floodplains caused by torrential rains or floodwaters during the summer period, fish die-offs may occur as a result of the rotting of flooded vegetation. Of particular danger is the inflow of swamp and industrial wastewater into water bodies, which can lead to mass fish mortality. Waters flowing into fishing grounds from swampy areas contain a large amount of organic matter and are poor in dissolved oxygen.
Should signs of pre-die-off phenomena or instances of fish mortality in fishing grounds be detected, please report them to the Lepel Inter-district Inspectorate for the Protection of Fauna and Flora (8 (0232) 3 43 59, 3 43 85).
