Currently, due to weather conditions, the habitat for fish in certain water bodies of the republic has deteriorated, resulting in pre-anoxia and anoxic phenomena being observed in some of them.
Summer anoxic phenomena typically occur during hot periods (June-July) with high water temperatures in water bodies heavily overgrown with blue-green algae, which give the water a deep green colour. The more silted a water body is, the worse the conditions for fish. Additionally, as a result of the flooding of river floodplains caused by torrential rains or floodwaters during the summer period, fish kills may occur due to the rotting of flooded vegetation. The inflow of swamp and industrial wastewater into water bodies poses a particular danger, as it can lead to mass fish mortality. Waters flowing into fishing grounds from swampy areas contain a large amount of organic matter and are poor in dissolved oxygen.
If signs of pre-anoxia or instances of fish mortality are detected in fishing grounds, please report them to the Lepel Inter-district Inspectorate for the Protection of Fauna and Flora (8 (0232) 3 43 59, 3 43 85).
