Currently, in the region, soil has been prepared for sowing on 18 thousand hectares. The main focus is on ploughing. "Selective sowing of early grain and leguminous crops has started in almost all districts of the Vitebsk region, with 9.2 thousand hectares sown. The Braslav and Rossony districts are preparing to commence selective sowing, but the capricious weather is hindering the work of the agricultural workers," the committee noted.

Spring field work is gaining momentum in the northern region. The Glubokoe district has become one of the leaders in selective sowing. Young machine operators are also working during this period, with a professional competition having been launched in the district among them.

Denis Fyodorov works at one of the largest farms in the district, SUP "Meretskiye". This is not the first time the young man has participated in the competition; he has also been a winner. This responsible specialist operates a powerful BELARUS3522, a machine he received two years ago. "My grandfather worked in agriculture. I followed in his footsteps after graduating from the Glubokoe Vocational Lyceum and I do not regret it. We are now actively working in the fields, only the frost sometimes interferes," noted Denis Fyodorov.

In the district, the best in their profession will be selected in three nominations: soil preparation, fertilizer application, and sowing. Twenty people are participating in the competition. The agricultural enterprise OAO "Za Rodinu" is represented by 26-year-old Igor Tsuronok, who was sowing leguminous crops today. "I love working the land. My father accustomed me to it from the age of 10, taking me on the tractor, and then letting me drive myself. I haven't won the competition yet, but I am trying and working towards it," he added.

The grain acreage in the Vitebsk region this year will amount to 450 thousand hectares, including 213 thousand hectares of winter cereals and 75 thousand hectares of legumes. The area for cruciferous crops will occupy 110 thousand hectares (58 thousand hectares of winter crops), 13 thousand hectares are allocated for flax, 2 thousand hectares for potatoes, 90 thousand hectares for silage corn, and almost 0.4 thousand hectares for vegetables.
