An increasing number of citizens are heading to the forests to gather mushrooms and berries, and with this, the workload for employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES), police, and forestry service is growing. The past weekend was no exception: on October 2nd, the operational control centre of the Lepel District MES received a report that a pensioner from Minsk, who had gone into the forest to gather mushrooms, was lost near the village of Perekhodtzy, Domzheritsy rural council. The following day, the missing person was found by a search group. On August 10th, a report was received that a pensioner, who had gone into the forest to gather mushrooms, got lost near the village of Dvor Susha, Bobrovtsy rural council. On the same day, the citizen was located by MES employees.
Dear citizens! The MES reminds you once again:
- be careful and attentive within any forest areas, even those you know well;
- inform relatives, acquaintances, or neighbours before heading into the forest;
- do not let elderly relatives and children go into the forest alone;
- if possible, do not go into the forest alone;
- be sure to take a charged mobile phone, a knife, matches, a whistle, a compass, drinking water, a day's worth of food, and necessary medications;
- to ensure you are visible in the forest, wear brightly coloured clothing with reflective elements;
- if one of your acquaintances or relatives goes missing, do not attempt to search for them yourself – you should report it to the MES or police service as quickly as possible.
