Rules for crossing pedestrian crossings

In order to prevent road traffic accidents involving vulnerable road users, as well as to ensure their safety, the Traffic Regulations stipulate the duties of drivers when approaching a pedestrian crossing.

  Thus, when approaching a pedestrian crossing, a driver is obliged to:

  - reduce speed, up to a complete stop, to give way to pedestrians and cyclists; - pay attention to vehicles moving in adjacent lanes, as they may start to slow down to let pedestrians pass; - give way to a visually impaired pedestrian who signals with a white cane or a cane with a high-visibility covering (this rule also applies outside pedestrian crossings); - if there are pedestrians on the roadway who have not completed crossing the road, the driver is obliged to give way to them.

  In case of violation of these rules, a driver may be held administratively liable in the form of a fine ranging from 1 to 5 base units.
