The concept of "indivisible goods", for which a separate procedure for paying customs duties is established for individuals importing into the EAEU territory, will not apply from January 1, 2020, the Grodno Regional Customs informed BELTA, referring to the decision of the EEC Council No. 107 of December 20, 2017.
An indivisible good for personal use is understood as a good weighing more than 35 kg (including packaging that cannot be separated before consumption or in which it is presented for retail sale). Such a good cannot be divided without changing its purpose.
Currently, for indivisible goods, payments are charged at a rate of 30% of the value, but not less than 4 euros per kilogram of weight. For example, when importing a dishwasher weighing 36 kg and costing 300 euros, it is necessary to pay 36 kg x 4 euros = 144 euros.
From January 1, 2020, goods to which the concept of "indivisible" currently applies will be included in the weight and value of goods transported by individuals into the EAEU territory. Accordingly, the calculation of payments will be made for the part exceeding the value or weight limits (taking into account the frequency of crossing the customs border). That is, when importing a dishwasher weighing 36 kg and costing 300 euros, customs duties will be paid at a rate of 30% of the value, but not less than 4 euros per 1 kg of weight for the part exceeding the value or weight limits. If a citizen crosses the customs border less often than once every three calendar months and imports only this good, the amount of payments will be 44 euros (11 kg x 4 euros).
The customs reminded that today it is possible to import goods duty-free, the value of which does not exceed 500 euros and (or) the weight does not exceed 25 kg. And in case of crossing the border more often than once within three calendar months, the value of such goods should not exceed the amount equivalent to 300 euros, and the total weight should not exceed 20 kg.
