The Council of Ministers has approved the Regulations on the organisation and conduct of the republican professional skills competition for pedagogical staff "Teacher of the Year of the Republic of Belarus". "The document has been adopted to create conditions for the dissemination of effective pedagogical experience, the identification of talented, creatively working pedagogical staff, the enhancement of the prestige of pedagogical work, and the attraction of public attention to the trends in the development of the education system," the government noted.
According to the Regulations, the competition is announced by the Ministry of Education and is held once every three years. Pedagogical staff can participate in it regardless of their qualification category and length of service.
The competition is held in four stages: the first is in educational institutions; the second is at the district (city) level; the third is at the regional (Minsk city) level; the fourth is the final stage (consisting of two rounds: the final and the superfinal).
The summing up of results and the awarding of competition winners are held on the eve of the professional holiday – Teacher's Day, in the year following the academic year in which the competition was announced.
The winner of the superfinal is awarded the competition symbol "Crystal Crane", a winner's diploma, a monetary reward, and also a valuable prize from the President.
Participants of the fourth stage of the competition may be nominated for awards with certificates of honour, diplomas of honour from the Ministry of Education, and the badge "Vydatnik adukacyi" (Excellence in Education).
