The celebration of dance, which once began as a breakdance festival-competition, has now become a vibrant cultural event of international scale. This was stated at the opening of the International Festival of Modern Choreography in Vitebsk by Valery Gromada, First Deputy Minister of Culture of Belarus.

"The celebration of dance has returned to Vitebsk. This festival began as a breakdance festival-competition, and today it is a vibrant, significant cultural event not only in the life of our country but also an event of international scale. Very notable and outstanding names have made this festival famous: Radu Poklitaru, Vladimir Vasiliev, Valery Elizaryev, our outstanding ballet master. I would like to express special words of gratitude to the Vitebsk region for the organization and holding of this festival," noted Valery Gromada.

He read out the welcoming address of the Minister of Culture of Belarus, Anatoly Markevich, to the forum participants. The text noted that this year's festival program includes performances by brilliant world-class artists: creative meetings of like-minded people, master classes for young performers by the best contemporary dance mentors, as well as the main event of the forum – the international competition. The festival has become a platform for promoting avant-garde ideas in choreography and is constantly in a state of experimentation and creative innovation.

Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Alexander Subbotin, also congratulated the residents and guests of the city on the opening of the forum. He wished the participants interesting and unforgettable moments on stage. "After a two-year break, this festival, this extravaganza, is with us again. And everyone is ready to enjoy for several days what will happen on stage," said the head of the region. "The festival has turned into an event of international magnitude, which identifies the most outstanding people in the field of modern choreography from all over the world."

The International Festival of Modern Choreography (IFMC) will be held in Vitebsk from November 23 to 27. The program opened with the painting exhibition "Vladimir Vasiliev's Dancing Brush", the photography exhibition "Loaders of the Wind", a presentation of the competition participants, and the performance "Rachmaninoff" by the F. Berezikov State Youth Ensemble of Song and Dance "Altai".
