On October 7, Vitebsk /Diana Kurilo - BELTA/. The celebration of the 1150th anniversary of Polotsk is being nominated for inclusion in the UNESCO list of юбилейные даты for 2012. This was announced today to the participants of the first meeting of the organizing committee for the anniversary celebration, as reported to BELTA correspondent by Natalia Aleshkovich, Deputy Head of the Socio-Cultural Sphere Department of the Council of Ministers' Office. According to her, the chairman of the organizing committee, Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Anatoly Tozik, emphasized that the celebration of the anniversary of the oldest Belarusian city should be an extraordinary, memorable event in the cultural life of the country and, first and foremost, will be aimed at fostering a sense of patriotism and pride in the younger generation for the past and present of their state. Numerous guests from far and near abroad will be invited to participate in the celebrations: representatives of Polotsk's twin cities, business partners, and famous natives of the city. The concept of the festive events will be developed by a creative group, which will include employees of culture, education, science, and the Orthodox Church. Work on it will begin in the coming days in Polotsk. In addition, all interested ministries and departments, including the Ministry of Information, the Ministry of Culture, the National Academy of Sciences, the Belarusian Exarchate, and public organizations, will be involved in organizing the celebration. The preliminary date for the celebration of the 1150th anniversary of Polotsk is set for the end of May - beginning of June. Traditionally, during this period, usually within a week, a series of diverse events, both secular and spiritual, dedicated to the city's birthday, takes place in Polotsk. At the meeting of the organizing committee, the issue of implementing the Comprehensive Program for the Development of Polotsk for 2008-2012 was also considered. The chairman of the organizing committee, Anatoly Tozik, noted the unsatisfactory execution of the program. Currently, seven out of 37 events have been completed, with the rest being in the implementation stage. However, according to assurances from the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, the Polotsk City Executive Committee, and the ministries responsible for the program's execution, a significant portion of them will be completed in 2012.
