17 December, Vitebsk /Olga Bogacheva - BELTA/. The last subbotnik (volunteer work day) of the outgoing year will take place today in Vitebsk, the head of the housing and communal services department of the Vitebsk City Executive Committee, Valery Kirsanov, informed a BELTA correspondent.
The pre-New Year clean-up is entirely dedicated to polishing up the city. Employees of enterprises and organisations, and young people will jointly tidy up their workplaces, improve adjacent territories, and complete their decoration for the New Year where necessary, as many institutions this year supported the initiative of the City Executive Committee and decorated the facades of their buildings with their own festive fir trees. Thus, the city, already dressed up for the holiday, will delight its residents and guests not only with bright illuminations and lights but also with mirror-like cleanliness.
The reward for the efforts expended will be the opening of Christmas tree markets for Vitebsk residents today. A total of 20 trading points will be organised in Vitebsk, with a network covering all city districts. Vitebsk, Shumilino, Glubokoe, Surazh, Liozno, Lepel, Tolochin, Begoml, Ushachi, and Polotsk forestry enterprises will offer New Year's green beauties. They will bring ordinary and blue spruces, pines, potted trees, and spruce and pine bouquets for citizens to choose from. Extended sales will take place on December 24 and 30. The cost of a tree will start from Br20 thousand.
