Chairperson of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova took part in the meeting of the Lepel District Executive Committee.

The demographic situation in Lepel district is characterised by a declining population and an ageing population. The proportion of people aged 65 and over is 18%.

To address the issues of ensuring demographic security in the district, all structural divisions of the district executive committee, the district and rural councils of deputies, and healthcare institutions closely cooperate. The region's population receives timely medical assistance, it was noted at the meeting.

The meeting also considered issues of staffing of medical institutions in the region and their retention in their jobs. To this end, work is organised in Lepel district to support specialists, including the provision of housing for those in need.

The issue of mandatory medical examinations was discussed.

- Mandatory annual medical examinations for the population are an excellent idea, enshrined in law. But it is very important to think through a strategy for its most effective implementation at the local level. You have the right to independently choose the most suitable scheme for the district. So that it is convenient for both people and doctors. And most importantly, effective, - Natalia Ivanovna emphasised.

Natalia Kachanova also met with the staff of the "Lepel Bakery" branch of OJSC "Vitebskhleboprom" today and familiarised herself with the enterprise's production base.

The "Lepel Bakery" branch of OJSC "Vitebskhleboprom" can produce 152 tonnes of bakery products and 5 tonnes of confectionery products monthly.

In January 2023, the range of products manufactured includes over 30 types of bakery products and 16 types of confectionery products – pastries, cakes, muffins, gingerbread, biscuits, flour confectionery, and more.

The main task facing the branch is to expand the sales market and strengthen its established positions by expanding the range and quality of manufactured products, and increasing the nutritional value of bread and bakery products.

- All conditions have been created for a decent life in every city and district. There is a vertical of power and structures that work for the benefit of the people.

The task is to develop the economy by opening enterprises and production facilities in a specific district or city. We understand that if there is work and all conditions are created in district centers, people will stay and live, work, and study there," Natalia Ivanovna summarized.
