The New Year has just begun, and the fire situation is already quite tense. Since the beginning of the year, 9 people have died in fires in the Vitebsk region. Moreover, all of them were intoxicated. The main causes of tragedies are alcohol abuse, carelessness when smoking, and complete disregard for basic personal safety measures.
To ensure the safe celebration of the Christmas holidays, all prevention entities in the Lepel district have intensified daily fire prevention work among the population in all rural councils. Employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, representatives of healthcare, the Department of Internal Affairs, social and other services participated in this work.
All prevention entities are paying special attention to households that, for various reasons, require specific attention: families raising minors, including large families and those recognised as being in a socially dangerous situation; disabled individuals, lonely and elderly people living alone, as well as citizens leading an anti-social lifestyle, including those prone to alcohol abuse.
During raids, rescuers paid attention to the living conditions of children and inquired about parents' work schedules to prevent the possibility of leaving young children unattended. During comprehensive inspections of households, special attention was paid to the condition of stove heating, gas and electrical equipment, and the presence and operability of autonomous fire alarms in living rooms. Employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations reminded each homeowner of the need to strictly comply with fire safety requirements, and handed out preventive leaflets and recommendations for eliminating identified violations.
Meetings were also held with the chairpersons of rural executive committees. During the discussions, problematic issues in fire safety provision and ways to resolve them were identified, as well as the importance of the involvement of inspection commissions in joint work and interaction with other prevention entities.
Information and explanatory work was carried out with the residents of the dormitories of DKUSP "Lepel PMK-75", Housing and Communal Services, where attention was focused on the inadmissibility of violating fire safety regulations, smoking outside specially equipped areas, and the need to maintain electrical equipment and appliances, including those for cooking, in good working order. Officials of enterprises and commandants were present in each dormitory, who during the inspection noted and, where possible, immediately rectified the identified shortcomings.
Also, employees of the Lepel District Department for Emergency Situations and the Vitebsk Regional Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations held meetings with the work collectives of the town of Lepel: Lepel Bakery Branch of Vitebskhlebprom OJSC, Lepel Branch of Vitebskagroprodukt CJSC. Particular attention was paid to the attendees on compliance with fire safety rules in everyday life and in the performance of their official duties during work activities.
On the eve of the celebration of Christmas, rescuers visited churches and temples in the Lepel district where festive services are held. Special attention was paid to the condition of access roads to the facilities, the maintenance of evacuation routes and exits, and the availability and operability of primary fire extinguishing means. Conversations were held with clergy about the need to address parishioners with the aim of safely celebrating Christmas holidays and observing fire safety regulations.
Rescuers strongly urge the residents of the district to take the necessary measures to bring their households into a fire-safe condition. Be careful when handling fire, do not allow smoking in residential areas, observe safety rules when operating stoves, heating and electrical equipment, and do not leave children unattended. Be vigilant and protect your lives and your property!
