The premiere of the play "The Violin of the Swamps and Heather Moors" will take place today at the Vitebsk "Lyalka" Theatre.

October 2, Vitebsk /Alena Tikhonova - BELTA/. The premiere of the adult play "Skrypka drygvy i verasovykh pustachaŭ" (The Violin of the Swamp and Heather Wastes) will take place today at the Belarusian Puppet Theatre "Lyalka", the cultural institution informed a BELTA correspondent.

The production, based on the works of Vladimir Korotkevich, was directed by the theatre's artistic director, Honoured Artist of Belarus Viktor Klimchuk.

The fantasy play will transport the audience to medieval Belarus, to the times when minstrel musicians travelled through the towns. One of them, the violinist Ales' Ban-Khirba, reminded people of the main life principles – love, honour, loyalty, self-sacrifice, and selfless service to their native land. The play also features a romantic storyline – the bright love story of Yanuk and Marta. The production is filled with dances, songs, and elements of Belarusian ritual folklore.

The play predominantly features young actors of the theatre – Marina Morozova, Sergey Tolkach, Mikhail Klimchuk, Valery Zimnitsky, Evgeny Gusev, and Natalia Gayduk. The role of the musician Ales' is performed by Yuri Frankov.

Set design and projection – Alexandra Sidorova, stage adaptation, puppets, and costumes – Anna Sidorova, choreography was done by Diana Yurchenko.

The production "Skrypka drygvy i verasovykh pustachaŭ" concludes the triptych of plays directed by Viktor Klimchuk at "Lyalka" based on the works of Vladimir Korotkevich (the Vitebsk theatre's repertoire includes the children's fairy tale "Zabyty skarba" (Forgotten Treasure) and the adult production "Laddzya rospachy" (The Boat of Despair)).

"Skrypka drygvy i verasovykh pustachaŭ" is the first premiere of the new theatre season, which opened on September 29. Several more new productions are planned. For the youngest audience, an adaptation of the fairy tale by Swedish children's writer and illustrator Sven Nordqvist, "How Findus Lost His Way," is being prepared. The director is Svetlana Ben, who already has experience working with the "Lyalka" troupe. The main premiere of the season is expected to be an adult play based on Anton Chekhov's novella "The Black Monk."

The Belarusian Puppet Theatre "Lyalka" was founded in Vitebsk in 1985 as a puppet troupe at the Yakub Kolas National Academic Drama Theatre. The first performance, "Ded i Zhuravl" (Grandfather and Crane) based on the play by Vitaly Volsky, was staged on April 20, 1986. In 1990, the puppet troupe became an independent company with its own building in the city centre.-0-
