A presentation of city libraries will be held in Vitebsk on the City Day, the Culture Department of the Vitebsk City Executive Committee informed a BELTA correspondent. In the Year of the Book, the library system of the regional center has launched extensive activities to attract readers, and on the holiday of the 1038th anniversary of Vitebsk, it decided not to interrupt this work, planning to meet with its current and potential readers. On the first day of the festivities, June 23, the adjacent pedestrian streets of the regional center will become one "Street of Knowledge and Talents". City libraries will present stands here, and also talk about their activities in organizing leisure for readers. Libraries-centers have been created on the basis of three of them: the I. Krylov Library is the information and leisure center "Golden Age", where work is carried out with elderly people; the V. Korotkevich Library is known for its local history center "With the Ancestors' Heritage into the Future"; the L. Tolstoy Library hosts an environmental education center. In addition, 14 hobby groups and clubs operate at the libraries. However, the main goal of the library is considered to be the popularization of books, so writers and poets of the city have been invited to participate in its presentation. Also here on the "Street of Knowledge" a charity event "Take a Book - Help a Child" will be organized - to collect books for orphanages and shelters. The Centralized Library System of Vitebsk unites 21 libraries, including 14 public libraries, among which are the youth library and the library of foreign literature, and 7 children's libraries, with a book stock of over 835 thousand copies. The city's Central Library System serves over 95 thousand readers. Vitebsk's birthday will be celebrated from June 23 to 25. -0-
