President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, making the decision on the appointment of Yuri Romanovsky as the new rector of Polotsk State University, outlined the main tasks for the head of the university.

"You will have to work at the university and continue the good deeds that the former rector started (the previous rector Oleg Romanov left his post and was elected chairman of the republican public association "Belaya Rus"). I think you will succeed," the President said.

Speaking about the candidacy of the new rector, the head of state noted that Irina Kiturko, rector of Yanka Kupala Grodno State University, where Yuri Romanovsky served as first vice-rector, had spoken positively about him. "I don't think the rector of Grodno University recommended you to get rid of you. I don't think so," said Alexander Lukashenko. "She is also a reliable person, she understands what she is doing. We respect the people who recommended you, they bear responsibility for it. I really hope that you will succeed in Polotsk. If there are any issues, please contact us, we will help and support you. And you should look around, it is useful for you to actually move from west to east, into the cradle of our statehood."

The head of state noted that many good, useful innovations were introduced to other regions precisely from Grodno. In the President's opinion, it will be the same this time: "I think you will succeed in this too. In short, we will always support you in this regard. Be a statesman, a true Belarusian. This is what is required of you – to be a strong, true patriot and to educate the younger generation in the same way, because they are the future of our country, the current students. And the fate and position of our country in the international arena depend on who they will be."
