29 June, Minsk /Andrei Asfura - BELTA/. The presidential campaign in Belarus will start no later than November 6, 2010. This was announced today by the Chairperson of the Central Commission for Elections and holding Republican Referendums, Lidiya Yermoshina, speaking to the participants of the "Youth Choice" club of young deputies meeting, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.
"Since the presidential elections must take place by February 6 inclusive, the election campaign will begin no later than November 6," said Lidiya Yermoshina.
She recalled that this year amendments to the Electoral Code of Belarus came into force, and the upcoming presidential elections will be held under the amended rules. In particular, meetings of executive committees, where election commissions will be formed, must be held openly, with the participation of representatives of those who claim to participate in the activities of election commissions. There are quite a few cases where executive committees conduct this procedure in a narrow circle, but this should not happen in this election campaign.
Lidiya Yermoshina noted that each presidential candidate must collect more than 100,000 signatures in their support. "To do this, powerful initiative groups of more than 100 people are needed," said the Chairperson of the Central Election Commission. -0-
