The application of LED technologies is planned to be expanded in Belarus, as reported by Vladimir Komashko, Deputy Director of the Department for Energy Efficiency of the State Committee for Standardization, during a press conference dedicated to the launch of the republican competition for the "Energy Efficiency Leader - 2017" award, according to a BELTA correspondent.

"It is planned to expand the use of LED technologies. They are increasingly used in the residential sector. Luminaires of this type have also appeared for lighting road sections and highways. LED technologies will continue to develop actively," said Vladimir Komashko.
He also reported that in late 2016 - early 2017, two meetings of the Committee on Sustainable Energy of the UN Economic Commission for Europe were held, which considered the issue of classifying energy resources. "There is a framework classifier of energy resources. It is expected that peat will be included there as a separate type of fuel. This gives Belarus new opportunities, as we have long been actively working with peat in the energy sector. It is expected that such a change will be introduced from 2018," added the deputy director of the department.
According to him, the use of wood biomass in the housing and communal services sector will be actively developed. Great attention will also be paid to the implementation of apartment-based heat energy metering in new residential buildings. "We will seek approaches for implementing apartment-based metering in the existing residential sector as well," noted Vladimir Komashko.
