The Executive Board of the United Nations Development Programme, the United Nations Population Fund, and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS) unanimously adopted the UNDP country programme for Belarus for 2016-2020. The programme budget is $82 million. Within the framework of the programme implementation, UNDP will focus its efforts on assisting Belarus in strengthening effective and responsible public administration at all levels, achieving sustainable economic growth, expanding women's participation in the political and economic life of the country, ensuring access for the entire population to a wide range of social services, and promoting a healthy lifestyle, with a special focus on those most in need – low-income individuals and people with disabilities, youth, and the elderly.
The representative of the Belarusian delegation highly praised the successful 20-year partnership between Belarus and UNDP, as well as the efforts made by the UNDP Regional Bureau for Europe and the CIS and the UNDP office in Belarus to prepare the new country document for Belarus. As noted, Belarus is aimed at continuing fruitful cooperation with all partners to achieve the programme's goals and will make all necessary efforts for its successful and effective implementation.
In turn, the Director of the UNDP Regional Bureau for Europe and the CIS, Cihan Sultanoğlu, expressed gratitude to the Government of Belarus for its support and assistance in preparing the programme, and also expressed confidence in the continuation of close cooperation with Belarus.
