With the aim of protecting and breeding valuable wild animals, especially river beavers and game birds, the Berezinsky Reserve was established on January 30, 1925, as a State Hunting Reserve.

This is one of the oldest and most unique nature protection territories of the highest rank in the Republic of Belarus, which has been preserved in its pristine state and has gained worldwide recognition as a benchmark of untouched nature not only in the CIS but also in Europe. The reserve is located in the Lepel, Dokshytsy, and Ushachy districts of the Vitebsk region and the Borisov district of the Minsk region.
