The draft of the general plan for Novopolotsk has been submitted for public discussion, as reported to BELTA correspondent by Albert Shakel, Deputy Chairman of the Novopolotsk City Executive Committee. The new general plan for the oil city defines priority areas for multi-apartment construction, incorporating several nearby villages into the city limits. The construction of a new bridge and a right-bank arterial street is planned, which will create convenient connections between the new construction areas and Novopolotsk, and between Novopolotsk itself and the centre of Polotsk and the railway station. The profiles of the bridge and arterial streets include a lane for a high-speed tram to Polotsk station square. In line with the new bridge, a road is planned with an exit to the Polotsk-Miory highway and, in the future, an extension to Vetrino, to exclude transit freight traffic through the centre of Novopolotsk. The development of industrial territories is envisaged through densification and reconstruction in the Novopolotsk industrial area. In the Koptievo industrial hub, sites have been reserved for the placement of production and business facilities, communal facilities, a trade and transport centre, and roadside service facilities. Former equipment storage facilities in the Borovukha-1 settlement are considered a reserve for the placement of enterprises of the Vitebsk FEZ. Along the Western Dvina River, in the area of Ya. Kolas Street, the creation of a promenade park is planned. Urban recreational areas with equipped beaches are planned to be formed near the Velie, Dubok, and Ropno lakes. In Borovukha, near Lake Velie, a recreation centre and a centre for technical sports are planned to be established on the basis of the buildings of a former regiment. Public discussion of the draft general plan will be held until February 14 of the current year. The draft can be viewed in the foyer of the City Executive Committee and on the official website. It will then be refined, taking into account the proposals received, and submitted for approval by interested ministries and departments.
