The main causes of this type of road traffic accident are: violation of rules for passing pedestrian crossings (29 accidents), pedestrians crossing the roadway in an undesignated area (19 accidents), and 10 road traffic accidents were caused by pedestrians not wearing reflective elements. 17 injured pedestrians were intoxicated. The largest number of accidents involving pedestrians occurred in populated areas (65), resulting in 11 fatalities and 55 injuries. On republican roads, 8 accidents of this category occurred, resulting in 7 fatalities and 1 injury.

Furthermore, the increase in accidents involving pedestrians is also attributed to seasonal changes (reduction in daylight hours, deterioration of weather conditions).

In order to intensify efforts to ensure road traffic safety, and to prevent and avert accidents related to pedestrian collisions, preventive measures to avert road traffic accidents involving pedestrians are being carried out throughout the Vitebsk region from 27 September to 31 October 2018.
