From August 7 to 17, the State Automobile Inspectorate will conduct the "STATE TECHNICAL INSPECTION" preventive event. Traffic police officers will check vehicles for their eligibility to participate in road traffic. The main goal of the event is to draw the attention of vehicle owners to maintaining their vehicles in technically sound condition.

This year, traffic police officers identified over 195,000 instances of participation in road traffic without passing the technical inspection. More than 75,000 drivers have been detained for this violation again within the year.
Last year, the number of road traffic accidents due to technical malfunctions of vehicles increased by 13% in the republic. The number of people killed in such accidents increased by almost 67%, and the injured by 74%. This year, 8 road traffic accidents occurred, in which 3 people died and 27 were injured.

For example, in the capital, a resident of the Minsk region, driving a "ZIL" vehicle, hit a schoolgirl and a woman crossing the roadway on a green light. The girl died at the scene of the accident, which occurred due to a faulty braking system.

In the Mogilev region, a man, without a driving license, got behind the wheel of an unroadworthy "Renault Megane". A metal pipe to the rear right wheel brake mechanism was plugged. Near the village of Filatovo, the driver lost control and hit a local resident, born in 1939, who died at the scene of the accident from her injuries.

According to the Code of Administrative Offences, driving a vehicle without a permit for its participation in road traffic is punishable by a warning or a fine ranging from 1 to 3 base units. In case of a repeated commission of the same violation within a year, a fine ranging from 2 to 5 base units is imposed.

We ask all vehicle owners to take a responsible approach to maintaining their vehicles in good working order and remind you that a timely technical inspection is the key to the safety of all road users!
