The State Automobile Inspectorate is conducting additional preventive measures from December 10 to December 30, 2017, to prevent road traffic accidents involving vehicles of organisations and individual entrepreneurs providing passenger and freight transport services. Supervision over drivers' compliance with the Traffic Regulations, as well as rules for the safe carriage of passengers and goods, will be intensified. Inspectors will examine the organisation of pre-trip driver checks, the technical condition of vehicles before they enter service, and the timeliness and completeness of state technical inspections. Mandatory orders will be issued for all identified violations of legislation.
In the coming days, rain and wet snow are expected over most of the country, with icy conditions on the roads. Therefore, due to difficult weather conditions, round-the-clock monitoring of street and road conditions is organised to ensure timely work by road and utility services. However, it should be borne in mind that a cleared and treated carriageway does not immediately become safe; the mixture requires time and a certain intensity of traffic to take effect. Therefore, it is advisable to adopt a restrained driving style and a safe speed, braking and accelerating smoothly, and avoiding skidding on slippery roads. Unnecessary lane changes, overtakes and passing manoeuvres should be avoided. All occupants of the vehicle must wear seatbelts. Extreme caution should be exercised when driving through exposed sections of roads, as well as on bridges, overpasses and flyovers.
Pedestrians are advised to exercise maximum attention and caution when crossing streets. Even at regulated pedestrian crossings, do not start crossing until all vehicles have stopped. Due to potential ice on pavements, approach the edge of the carriageway with care. In darkness, it is essential to make yourself visible with a reflective element.
