Prevention of property theft

Among the most common property thefts are pickpocketing, residential burglaries, motor vehicle thefts, and thefts of unattended items.

Most thefts occur on the street and in markets, as well as on public transport. The main targets of criminal encroachment are mobile phones and wallets containing cash.
Thefts are carried out by breaking down doors, picking locks, or through windows, ventilation windows, and balcony doors left open. Every second residential burglary is committed due to the carelessness of the victims themselves, where the perpetrators are individuals invited by the owners, including for drinking together. More than half of residential burglaries are committed through free access. By carelessly leaving the front door open while at home, owners allow intruders to enter their homes unhindered and commit theft.
Motor vehicle theft is a common type of property crime. Most of these thefts are committed from vehicles that are not protected by markings and alarm systems, and are carried out by breaking the glass or forcing the lock. The most frequent targets of criminal encroachment are car radios, navigators, video recorders, and mirrors. Do not forget about items left unattended in the car by car owners, which are clearly eye-catching (bags, packages, mobile phones, documents, wallets, various types of household and computer equipment).
Law enforcement also draws citizens' attention to the fact that thefts of unattended items are one of the most frequently committed crimes.
- The commission of such crimes is facilitated by the fact that victims themselves leave their property unattended, which becomes easy prey for criminals.
To prevent property theft, it is important to remember a few rules that can help ensure the safety of property:
- in transport and public places, keep personal belongings in hard-to-reach places;
- keep hand luggage in sight at all times, make sure pockets are zipped;
- when leaving home, do not leave windows open, do not forget to lock the door;
- install doors with locks of different systems and different

producers, equip them with eyes and chains;
- do not let strangers into your apartment or house, and warn children who are left without your supervision about this;
- strive to establish good relations with neighbours (mutual observation of each other's apartments will help ensure the security of your dwelling);
- equip your apartments with an alarm system.
- do not forget or leave your personal belongings unattended;
- when using public transport, try not to get distracted (e.g., do not read while moving, do not gaze out the window;
To ensure the safety of citizens, prevent and stop thefts from properties and apartments, as well as other crimes in the residential sector, the police recommend using the services of the Security Department units. Your apartment, house, or any non-residential premises will be taken under protection with the alarm signal transmitted to the central security console.
We also remind you that in accordance with current legislation, if an item is found in premises or transport, it must be handed over to the person representing the owner of these premises or means of transport. In cases where the person entitled to demand the return of the found item, or their whereabouts, are unknown, the finder is obliged to report the find to the Internal Affairs Department or the local government and self-government body.
