Strict adherence to legality and law and order cannot be ensured without close cooperation between the police and the general public. Moreover, law enforcement agencies are currently undergoing optimization. This was precisely the subject of discussion at a meeting in the district executive committee, which summarized the results of the interaction between the Department of Internal Affairs and voluntary public security squads. The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the District Council of Deputies, Mikola Misyura, Deputy Chairman of the District Executive Committee, Viktor Azaronak, Head of the Department of Internal Affairs, Alyaksandr Duranau, chairmen of rural executive committees, deputy heads of ideology of certain enterprises and institutions, and commanders of voluntary public security squads.

Ihar Mikhno, Head of the Department for Public Order and Crime Prevention of the Department of Internal Affairs, noted that 26 voluntary public security squads (DPS) have been registered, including 17 in the city and nine in rural areas. A total of 194 voluntary police assistants are registered. They participate in joint patrols with police officers, engage in preventive work with individuals registered with the Department of Internal Affairs, and provide other assistance to law enforcement agencies.

Last year, in cooperation with members of the DPS, 60 individuals were detained for being in a state of alcoholic intoxication, behaving inappropriately, and disturbing public order. Squad members worked in dormitories and monitored public order in settlements and rural Houses of Culture during mass events. The activities of the public formations of the healthcare institution "Lepel Central District Hospital," the "Lepel Bakery" branch of JSC "Vitebskhleboprom," the district electric communication unit, and the Borovoe rural executive committee were noted positively.

Members of the voluntary public security squads are incentivized by all enterprises and institutions of the district in accordance with collective agreements, in the form of paid time off, commendations, and monetary bonuses.

A different approach to the matter is also observed. According to the schedule, the formations of the state forestry institution "Lepel Leskhoz" and the logging enterprise of JSC "Vitebskles" did not report for duty. The squads of the state communal unitary enterprise "Lepel PMK-75," the state communal unitary enterprise "Lepel PMS," and the branch "DEU No. 37" of the unitary enterprise "Vitebskavtodor" were not active enough.
