The volume of agricultural production in the Vitebsk region for January-February 2012 increased by 6.9% compared to the same period last year, reaching Br269.4 billion, the Committee for Agriculture and Food of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee informed a BELTA correspondent. Among the regions that have shown the most successful performance in all aspects of agricultural production are Verkhnedvinsk, Lepel, Orsha, and Beshenkovichi districts. According to preliminary forecasts, the volume of agricultural production in the region's farms for the first quarter is also expected to be 106.9%. The volume of milk production for January-February increased by 10.3% to 116.3 thousand tonnes. Milk yield per cow was 583 kg, which is 63 kg more than last year. The best performance was shown by agricultural organisations in Shumilino (121.1%), Rossony (120.5%), Senno (118.6%), Orsha (115.2%), Glubokoe (114.1%), Beshenkovichi (113.3%), Dokshitsy and Lepel (113.8% each) districts. Insufficient performance was noted in Ushachi, Dubrovno, Liozno, and Chashniki districts. Milk production volume for the first quarter is expected to be 105.5%. The volume of meat production for the two months reached 107.2% of the same period in 2011 (37.2 thousand tonnes), including cattle - 106.3% (14.4 thousand tonnes), pigs - 99.3% (11.5 thousand tonnes), poultry - 117.9% (11.3 thousand tonnes).
