On November 24, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. The Vitebsk Regional Prosecutor's Office demands an intensification of efforts to identify instances of illegal involvement of officials in entrepreneurial activities. This was stated today at a meeting of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, where the progress of the State Program for Combating Crime and Corruption for 2010-2012 and the Regional Program for Combating Crime and Corruption for 2011 was discussed, by the Prosecutor of the Vitebsk Region, Gennady Dysko.
The Prosecutor's Office considers the work of individual district departments for combating economic crimes (OBEP) and the analogous department of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee to be insufficient. "The work of the OBEP lacks significant results in identifying instances of illegal involvement of officials in entrepreneurial activities, and due attention is not paid to the use of budget funds allocated for the acquisition and maintenance of state property," the prosecutor stated.
As Gennady Dysko emphasized, the most important component of the state program for combating crime and corruption is measures to prevent corruption offenses. In order to prevent them, the regional prosecutor's office conducted about a hundred inspections of compliance with anti-corruption legislation this year. Based on their results, 170 acts of prosecutorial supervision were drawn up, and more than 100 officials were brought to various types of liability.
Against the backdrop of a general decrease in crime in the Vitebsk region, the number of disclosed corruption offenses is growing. For 10 months of the current year, 311 crimes classified as corruption offenses were identified, which is 5% more than in the same period last year. A significant number of such unlawful acts were identified in industry, agriculture, trade, public administration, and education. The inspections carried out by the prosecutor's office indicate an insufficient level of organization of work on the prevention of official crimes in the structures of the committees for labor, employment and social protection, agriculture, and the departments of trade and education of the regional executive committee, said Gennady Dysko. -0-
