An information and propaganda group, led by the Deputy Chairman of the District Executive Committee, Alyaksandr Shydloŭski, met with students and the working collective of the Lepel Agrarian-Technical College.
Nina Skamaroshchanka, Chief Specialist of the Department for Labour, Employment and Social Protection of the Population, addressed the attendees on the topic "Ensuring maximum employment is the most important priority of the socio-economic policy of the Belarusian state".
The registered unemployment rate reached its maximum value of four percent in 1996, decreased to 1.77 percent in 2007, to 1.55 percent in 2008, and to 1.1 percent in 2011.
The number of registered unemployed at the end of December last year in the Lepel District was 162 people, which is 23.6 percent less than in December 2010, when it was 212.
The average unemployment benefit per unemployed person in December 2011 was 81,270 Belarusian rubles.
According to operational data, within the framework of the State Programme for Employment Promotion of the Population of the Republic of Belarus for 2011, a number of active labour market measures were carried out: 338 jobs were created, 754 people were employed in available vacancies, including 383 unemployed individuals; 95 unemployed individuals were directed to vocational training, retraining, and skill enhancement. 218 million Belarusian rubles were spent for these purposes. 17 unemployed individuals were provided with subsidies to start their own businesses, amounting to 81 million Belarusian rubles. 498 people, including 150 unemployed individuals, participated in paid public works. Temporary employment was organised for 193 students and pupils during their free time from studies.
Currently, the problem of youth employment is particularly acute, as many young people are not competitive in the labour market due to a lack of practical work experience and, in some cases, qualifications. Individuals aged 16 to 29 constitute 25.9 percent of the total unemployed contingent.
Alyaksandr Shydloŭski, Deputy Chairman of the District Executive Committee, summarising the work of the information and propaganda group, noted that it is very important for a future specialist to fully master their chosen profession, to set a clear goal for themselves, and to make maximum efforts to achieve it. Alyaksandr Alyaksandravich wished all students success on their path to realising their plans.
