Heating and warm clothing distribution points are being launched at city and district Red Cross organisations in the Vitebsk region, a BELTA correspondent was informed by the regional organisation of the Belarusian Red Cross Society.
"From today, points for distributing warm clothing are opening at all city and district organisations – primarily for homeless individuals, as well as other vulnerable categories. Here, these people will also be able to warm up and will be offered hot tea. For those without shelter, we will provide small food parcels. This assistance is provided at the expense of the Red Cross's own funds," the regional organisation noted.
The largest number of such points have been organised in Vitebsk, in each of its three districts. One is located at 10 Engels Street and operates from 9:00 to 13:00. Two more are open from 9:00 to 16:00 at 6 Stroiteley Avenue and 43 Pravdy Street. As noted by Mikhail Gusachenko, Chairman of the city organisation of the BRCS, residents of the regional centre respond to requests to bring items for those in need, however, they bring little warm clothing. "We will distribute what we have, but we are again appealing to citizens with a request to bring specifically insulated outerwear, trousers, mittens, socks, winter footwear, and so on," added Mikhail Gusachenko.
