Prosecutor's Office Staff Celebrate Their Professional Holiday

Annually on June 26, based on the Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus No. 157 of March 26, 1998 "On State Holidays", the Day of Prosecutors is celebrated in our country.

The Constitution of the Republic of Belarus enshrines the principle of independence of prosecutors in the exercise of their powers. The unified and centralized system of prosecution bodies is headed by the Prosecutor General.

The Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Belarus is a department entrusted with a special form of activity: supervision over the precise and uniform implementation of regulatory legal acts. The Prosecutor's Office takes measures to eliminate violations of legislation, regardless of who committed these violations.

The Prosecutor's Office of Lepel District was established in 1938, but documentary evidence of its work has not been preserved. From July 1941 to July 1944, the activities of the district prosecutor's office were suspended. In 1958, the Lepel District Prosecutor's Office became inter-district, ensuring supervision over compliance with socialist legality in the territory of Lepel and Ushachi districts.

In 2006, the Lepel Inter-district Prosecutor's Office was reorganised into the Prosecutor's Office of Lepel District.

Since October 8, 2018, the district prosecutor's office has been headed by Justice Counsellor Vitaly Mikhailovich Zhigimont, who began his work at the Lepel Inter-district Prosecutor's Office in 1999. Since 2004, he served in the financial investigation bodies, then held leadership positions in various organisations and institutions of the district. In 2015, he returned to the prosecution bodies, and since September 2016, he was appointed Deputy District Prosecutor. His extensive professional experience allows him to solve any tasks and provide practical assistance to young employees.

Under the sensitive guidance of an experienced and knowledgeable leader, three prosecution officers work: Deputy District Prosecutor A.S. Filimonov, Senior Assistant District Prosecutor K.V. Grishkevich, and Assistant Prosecutor A.S. Deinka, as well as the leading specialist for operational support L.V. Vaitekhovskaya, driver V.I. Tukhto, and premises cleaner T.V. Prusskaya. A small but cohesive team of like-minded professionals, capable of fully performing the tasks assigned to them.

Honesty, integrity, and professionalism are requirements for every employee.

The coordinating role of the prosecutor's office in combating crime and corruption underscores its special legal status. The efforts of the Lepel District Prosecutor's Office are focused on countering crime and corruption. In the past period of 2023, the District Prosecutor's Office conducted 2 inspections of compliance with anti-corruption legislation. Monitoring of compliance with legislation on public procurement of goods (services) in rural executive committees, enterprises, and organizations of the district was also carried out.

The most important function of the prosecutor's office is human rights protection, with the restoration of citizens' violated rights being a significant aspect.

One of the most important areas of the prosecutor's office's activity is the consideration of citizens' appeals, as these help to identify issues requiring close attention.

The issue of protecting the rights of minors has always been and remains relevant, as children are the future of every state, and the future of society depends on how the younger generation is cared for. In 2022 and the elapsed period of 2023, the Lepel District Prosecutor's Office paid close attention to the restoration of minors' rights.

In April 2021, the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Belarus initiated a criminal case regarding the genocide of the population of Belarus during the Great Patriotic War and the post-war period. Employees of the Lepel District Prosecutor's Office and the Lepel District Department of the Investigative Committee carried out a series of investigative and other procedural actions within the framework of the investigation of this criminal case. 9 site inspections were conducted, and former concentration camp prisoners and family members of deceased participants of the Great Patriotic War and partisans were interviewed.

The investigation of the criminal case on the genocide of the Belarusian people during the Great Patriotic War is a tribute to the memory of the fallen and contributes to the establishment and preservation of historical justice.

An important area of activity is the conduct of informational and educational events on this topic among children and youth.

The priorities in the activities of the district prosecutor's office in 2023 remain the same – the protection of the interests of the state, society, and citizens. The district prosecutor's office, together with law enforcement and supervisory bodies, continues to work on countering corruption, preventing offenses, and ensuring the personal and property rights of citizens.
