The work on the roadmap for structural reforms in Belarus, which the World Bank is helping to prepare, is planned to be completed in the fourth quarter of this year, Minister of Economy Dmitry Krutoy announced on August 25 on the STV television channel, according to BELTA.
"Today, we are indeed working on updating this roadmap. We expect it to be the fourth quarter of the current year," said Dmitry Krutoy, responding to a question about the timeline for its preparation.
In July, at a meeting with representatives of the World Bank, First Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Turchin stated that there were not many disagreements left regarding the roadmap for improving the efficiency of the national economy. The Government of Belarus proposed to the World Bank to complete its approval in September 2019. Further preparation for signing, as reported, will continue until the end of the year.
The government and the World Bank began working on the reform roadmap in January 2019. Earlier, in an interview with BELTA, the head of the World Bank's office in Belarus, Alex Kremer, explained that during the preparation of the document, the bank's support would cover five main areas: public spending, the energy sector, state-owned enterprises, the financial sector, and the social protection and security system.
