Reconstruction works on the bridge across the Western Dvina in Novopolotsk are nearing completion. This information was announced during an on-site meeting attended by the Minister of Transport and Communications, Aleksei Avramenko, as reported by the relevant ministry.

"Construction has been underway for just over a year, and today we discussed the progress of the works required to open the bridge for traffic," noted Aleksei Avramenko. "These include waterproofing, the top asphalt concrete layer, and landscaping. We have determined that all major types of work here should be completed by the end of October. I believe the bridge will be a good gift for the residents of Novopolotsk."

The renovated bridge is made of metal. It will feature two main lanes for vehicular traffic, galvanized railings, and wider roadways and sidewalks. Furthermore, observation decks will be installed, offering views of the city.

The general client for the reconstruction of the facility is RUP "Vitebskavtodor," whose team was tasked with a significant objective: to open the bridge for traffic by the end of 2022. To this end, a work schedule was developed in conjunction with the general contractor, OAO "Mostostroy," and other organizations, which is currently being strictly adhered to.

The bridge across the Western Dvina is the only one in Novopolotsk. It provided quick access from the city to the republican highway and facilitated connections with the Borovukha and Mezhdurechye microdistricts. In June of last year, it was closed to traffic due to a number of defects identified during a structural inspection, which affected its load-bearing capacity and durability.
