Central district hospitals (CDH) in the Vitebsk region are expanding the range of surgical activities and mastering laparoscopic surgery, the head of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee's Healthcare Department, Yuri Derkach, told a BELTA correspondent. This year, medical staff purchased 5 laparoscopic stands for minimally invasive interventions. One of each was transferred to the Novolukoml and Lepel Central District Hospitals, which did not have such equipment until now, although the qualification level of surgeons allows for modern types of surgical intervention. To improve the provision of surgical and gynaecological care to the population and train local specialists, including doctors and operating nurses, experienced surgeons from the Regional Clinical Hospital and Vitebsk City Clinical Maternity Hospital No. 2 are being sent to district hospitals. They will perform laparoscopic operations and consultations. The medical staff of the Novolukoml CDH of the Chashniki district will be the first to undergo training. As Yuri Derkach emphasized, the introduction of modern treatment methods in district hospitals will allow patients from the districts to receive qualified assistance in a timely manner, which will positively affect their health status and reduce treatment costs. The widespread introduction of minimally invasive surgical intervention technologies is envisaged by the regional demographic security program and is driven by the need to reduce mortality among the working-age population. In 2015, it is planned to reduce mortality among this category in the region to 5.0 per 1 thousand people, and reduce the overall mortality rate to 12.0-12.5 per 1 thousand people in 2015. Despite the fact that positive trends in the development of demographic processes have emerged in the region by 2010, the rate of population decline has slowed down, and mortality among the population over working age has decreased, medical professionals are concerned about the mortality rates among the working-age population. -0-
