The Second Regional Christmas Readings "1917-2017. Orthodoxy in the History and Culture of Belarus: A Century's Review" will be held on December 6 in Glubokoye, BELTA was informed by the district executive committee.
"The first readings took place in Ushachi, and now Glubokoye is hosting them. This is convenient for the participants of the event, which covers 11 western districts of the region belonging to the Polotsk and Glubokoye eparchies. There will be many guests, including from the capital, who will discuss the topics of interaction between the church and other structures in various spheres in the upbringing of morality and spirituality," explained Tatyana Molotovnik, Deputy Chairperson of the Glubokoye District Executive Committee.
Participants will be divided into 5 working sections, with venues in various institutions of Glubokoye and even, for the first time, a place of worship. The Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary has been chosen as the venue for the first section "Historical and Cultural Heritage of Orthodoxy as a Source of Spiritual and Social Development of Belarus". Here, Archbishop Feodosiy of Polotsk and Glubokoye will speak about ideology and pragmatism as life-affirming factors of Orthodoxy, other reports will be presented, and a documentary film from the publishing house of the Belarusian Exarchate will be shown. The district leadership, deputy chairpersons of district executive committees for social affairs, deans, and museum directors will also participate in the section. Naturally, a representative of the clergy will also participate in the work of each section.
Heads of education, sports and tourism departments, and Sunday school teachers will meet at Secondary School No. 1 named after P. Sukhoi to discuss interaction between the church and education. Cooperation with the media will be discussed at the State Vocational Lyceum by chief editors of district newspapers and radio broadcasting, heads of departments of ideological work, culture and youth affairs, and representatives of the diocesan newspaper editorial office. "Personality, society, church in social and medical service. The value of life: history and modernity" is the title of the section at the psychoneurological boarding house for the elderly and disabled. Doctors and representatives of social services will talk about social service, the work of modern sisters of mercy, and the threat of sects. The central library will host a discussion on the topic "Church - Family - Society. Together in defence of life and family values". Participants of this section will include heads of district civil registration offices, heads of the women's consultation clinic, and members of the Glubokoye branch of the Coordinating Diocesan Centre for the Protection of Life and Family Values "Zarozhdeniye" of the Polotsk Diocese, which has significantly intensified its work this year, and this will be noted at the meeting.
"The results in the form of a resolution will be summarised at a plenary session in the afternoon. The programme also includes speeches by renowned scholars and guests – Halina Myslivets, Candidate of Historical Sciences from Polotsk State University, Aliaksandr Tytavets, Candidate of Philosophical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Philosophy and Methodology of Science of BSU, Mikalai Lis, member of the Synodal Department for Religious Education and Catechesis of the BPC, and TV presenter Aleh Lepeshenkau. A creative programme is also planned: a short concert by author and performer Anatol Dlusski, the balalaika octet "Vitebsk Virtuosos" of the regional philharmonic society, and the folk chamber choir of the Glubokoye City House of Culture," concluded Tatsiana Malatonik.
