The registration of candidates for members of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the seventh convocation will take place in Belarus on October 9-13, according to BELTA.
By this time, the nomination of contenders for seats in the upper house of parliament had taken place in all regions and in Minsk. This right is held by the presidiums of local councils of deputies of the basic level and the corresponding executive committees, and in the capital - by the presidium of the Minsk City Council and the Minsk City Executive Committee.
Voting for candidates for senators registered by the Central Election Commission takes place at meetings of deputies of local councils of the basic level and the Minsk City Council. A candidate who has received more than half of the votes is considered elected.
The Council of the Republic is the chamber of territorial representation. The procedure for its formation combines elements of election and appointment. Eight members are elected from each region and Minsk by secret ballot, and another eight senators are appointed by the President. In total, the upper house of parliament consists of 64 people.
Elections to the Council of the Republic are scheduled for November 7, and to the House of Representatives - for November 17.
