26 March, Vitebsk /Olga Bogacheva - BELTA/. The reconstruction of the Polotsk carriage depot is planned to be completed in the first half of the year, BELTA was informed at the UP "Vitebsk Branch of Belarusian Railway".

The reconstruction of the carriage depot has been underway since 2007. The first start-up complex of the facility was completed in 2011. It included the reconstruction of the auto-control and checkpoint, the modular units and spare parts workshop, the extension of the scrap metal storage and dismantling area with a utility building, and a hydraulic testing unit for tank wagons. In 2012, work was carried out on the second start-up complex, which included a utility block with dining rooms, a garage, and heating networks. This year, the depot has mastered the capital repair with an extension of the service life of tank wagons for the transportation of liquefied petroleum gases.

Work on the facilities of the third start-up complex was completed in 2013. It included a mechanical workshop with a canteen and a mechanical workshop repair area equipped with an overhead crane. The workshop has organised workplaces for employees of the repair and mechanical and power supply sections, an инструментальное отделение (tool department), and houses equipment necessary for the technical maintenance and repair of technological and power supply equipment.

The commissioning of the mechanical workshop has improved labour protection and sanitary and domestic conditions for 33 employees. Spacious premises, the area of which has more than tripled from 136.8 sq. m to 505.2 sq. m, have allowed for the arrangement of section equipment in accordance with labour protection regulations. At the same time, the congestion of premises with equipment has decreased, and the level of industrial noise has significantly reduced. The enlarged window openings of the premises ensure workplace illumination during daylight hours without the use of electricity. Spacious storage rooms allow for the storage of both spare parts and assembled equipment units. The reconstruction of the canteen has significantly improved the organisation of industrial catering.

In the first half of 2014, it is planned to complete and commission the facilities of the last, fourth start-up complex: the compressor station, the experimental department of the repair and mechanical section, and the auxiliary and procurement department of the building and structures maintenance section.
