"The work is expected to start in March of the current year and conclude in 2020. During the main phase, which involves two stages, a boiler house with gas-oil fired steam boilers will be constructed. Additionally, to cover the load deficit during night hours and ensure heat supply in Novolukoml, two hot water electric boilers, each with a capacity of 40 MW, along with auxiliary equipment, are to be installed and connected to the station-wide network water collectors. For the same purposes, the construction of 20 MW electric boilers at the 'Severnaya' boiler house in Vitebsk is planned. Considering the commissioning of the nuclear power plant, these measures will also significantly reduce gas consumption at these power sources," noted "Vitebskenergo".
Within the period of 2019-2021, the construction of peak reserve sources at the Lukomlskaya GRES and Novopolotsk Thermal Power Plant (TPP) is also envisaged. These are unique in that they can be put into operation in the shortest possible time – within 10-15 minutes. "Their activation will be primarily driven by the need to ensure the balance of electrical capacities in Belarus during scheduled shutdowns of NPP power units," added energy specialists from the Vitebsk region.
A comprehensive set of measures has been developed in the country following the integration of the Belarusian NPP into the unified energy system. Some of these are being implemented in the northern region.
