29 February, Vitebsk /Olga Bogacheva - BELTA/. The Rector of the Vitebsk State Academy of Veterinary Medicine, Anton Yatusevich, has become the first among the scientific community of Belarus to be awarded the title of Academician in the field of veterinary medicine of the Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the university informed a BELTA correspondent.
Anton Yatusevich was elected an Academician of the Russian Academy at the general annual meeting of this institution. Furthermore, during his participation in the event, he delivered a report on the issues of improving public animal husbandry against infectious and invasive diseases, and the development of veterinary science in general. Prospects for cooperation between the Vitebsk institution and the Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences were also discussed, the main outcome of which was the decision to hold a joint conference in October at the Vitebsk State Academy of Veterinary Medicine, dedicated to the prevention of dangerous and especially dangerous animal diseases.
The Vitebsk Academy of Veterinary Medicine is a recognized centre of higher education and science in Belarus. It comprises: 5 faculties, 28 departments, an agricultural college, branches in Rechitsa and Pinsk, the Research Institute of Applied Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnology, and the Republican Laboratory of Information Technologies. Currently, 171 Candidates and 23 Doctors of Sciences work at the academy. Since 1998, the Rector of the academy has been Doctor of Veterinary Sciences, Professor, Corresponding Member of the Petrovskaya Academy of Sciences and Arts, Academician of the Russian Academy of Agrarian Education, Academician of the International Academy of Information Technologies, Honoured Scientist of the Republic of Belarus, Anton Yatusevich.-0-
