In reports, the short phrase: "Cause of fire – careless handling of fire while smoking" has been heard too often in recent years. In the Vitebsk region, every fourth fire was caused by an intoxicated person, and an increase in fire incidents is observed in 10 districts of the region.

With the aim of preventing fires and deaths from them due to careless handling of fire while smoking, from November 8 to 18, the republican preventive campaign "Don't Burn Your Life Out!" will be held on the territory of the region. To reach everyone and prevent tragedies is the task that rescuers have set for themselves.
The campaign events are divided into 2 stages. The first will last from November 8 to 11. The venues will include scrap metal collection points, industrial enterprises, dormitories, and mobile shops. Participants of the campaign will be shown a statistical portrait of fire victims and thematic films in a dialogue format. To make the interaction interactive, they will be invited to participate in intellectual games "No Smoking Quiz" on the topics of life safety, the dangers of smoking, fires caused by smoking, etc.
The second stage of the campaign will be held from November 14 to 18. Rescuers will conduct it in higher education institutions, secondary vocational education institutions (lyceums, colleges), at the day care departments of regional drug treatment clinics, village councils, safety centers, and places with mass gatherings of people (in open areas). For example, students will be told about the consequences of smoking and given the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge in this area through talent and intellectual abilities in games and quizzes, KVN (a comedy competition), mini-skit contests, open dialogues, thematic discos, and much more. Such forms of work will allow students to get answers to all
issues of vital activity safety.
Creative and imaginative participants of the campaign will be able to take part in a competition and create a "Safe Ashtray", which will ensure fire safety when smoking in any place and position and will not let one forget about an unextinguished cigarette.
Events for persons abusing alcoholic beverages will be held at the day care units of regional narcological dispensaries. The meetings will consist of a preventive talk with the screening of thematic films and practical sessions on thematic platforms. To consolidate the acquired knowledge, participants will be given visual aids. Representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Internal Affairs Directorate and healthcare will join the efforts of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in this matter.
The campaign will conclude with events in places of mass gathering of people, rural councils, and open spaces with the program "Show without Cigarettes".
