April 30, Minsk /BelTA correspondent/. The republican patriotic event "Thank You for Victory!" was launched today at Victory Square in Minsk, BelTA reports.

Veterans, activists of the Belarusian Republican Youth Union, the Belarusian Republican Pioneer Organization and other public associations, finalists of the inter-university contest of grace and artistic skill "Miss Spring - 2013", participants of the international motor rally in GAZ "Pobeda" vintage cars honored the memory of those who died during the Great Patriotic War with a minute of silence, and laid flowers and wreaths at the Victory Monument and the Eternal Flame.

"Today, many values are being reinterpreted, including the Great Victory. However, projects supported by the state and public initiative help preserve the best, indigenous Belarusian traditions and values that allowed us to withstand the hardest years of the war," said Igor Buzovsky, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Belarusian Republican Youth Union, Deputy Chairman of the Standing Commission of the Council of the Republic for Education, Science, Culture and Social Development, who took part in the launch of the event.

During the rally at Victory Square, the youth congratulated the veterans on the upcoming holiday and presented the "Heroes of Victory" portraits – posters with images of Heroes of the Soviet Union from the Great Patriotic War era, natives of Belarus.

Also today, the first kite festival "Technoenergy" will be held on the open ground near the National Library.

The republican patriotic event "Thank You for Victory!" is held from April 30 to May 9 as part of the celebration of the Victory Day of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War. Scheduled events include Memory Watches, rallies, creative festivals, patriotic song contests, youth forums, congratulations to veterans, and provision of targeted social assistance to Great Patriotic War participants, among others. The symbol of the event is a red star with the inscription "Thank You for Victory!", which is used to decorate the homes and apartments of Great Patriotic War participants during these days. The project aims to foster the national and civic consciousness of young people, and instill in them respect for heroes and their feats.

The event is organized by the Belarusian Republican Youth Union and the Belarusian Republican Pioneer Organization. -0-
