Since the beginning of 2026, more than 200 fires have occurred in the Vitebsk region, resulting in over 30 fatalities.
The main causes of fires remain:
– violation of the rules for the operation (installation) of stove heating;
– violation of the rules for the operation of electrical networks and electrical equipment;
– careless handling of fire, including during smoking.
The campaign will be held with the aim of increasing the level of public safety, reducing the risks of people's deaths from external causes, including fires due to non-compliance with the fundamentals of life safety, educating citizens in this area and informing the public about the capabilities of organisations providing services in the field of fire safety, as well as preventing offences committed by citizens while intoxicated.
The campaign will focus on inspecting the fire safety status of households of single and lonely elderly citizens, disabled persons, and families in which children are in a socially dangerous situation, conducting explanatory work with them on compliance with fire safety rules, and informing the public about the capabilities of state organisations to provide services to ensure their safety.
During the campaign, anyone can contact the Lepel District Department for Emergency Situations to have the fire safety status of their home inspected.
