The XI Republican Tournament among Volunteer Fire Brigades and Squads in Fire and Rescue Sports will be held on August 12 in Novopolotsk, the propaganda and training center at the Vitebsk Regional Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations informed a BELTA correspondent. The winners of the regional qualifying stages of the tournament will gather in the oil city. The following volunteer fire formations will compete for the main prize: RUP "Vitebskenergo", TPP-4 (Minsk), OJSC "Belkard" (Grodno), Gomel divisions of RUP "Belorusneft" and OJSC "Beltransgaz", OJSC "Brest Meat Processing Plant", OJSC "Mogilevkhimvolokno" and Borisov Bakery Products Plant (Minsk Region). The teams, consisting of 9 people each, will compete in three program events. Volunteers will have to overcome a hundred-meter obstacle course, a 4x100m fire relay race, and also perform a combat deployment from a motor pump. Winners and prize-winners in individual and team standings will be awarded cups and valuable prizes. The main goals of the traditional tournament are to popularize and develop the activities of volunteer fire formations, improve the professional and sports skills of members of volunteer fire brigades, and attract the public to engage in applied sports aimed at preparing for actions in emergency situations and providing assistance to people affected by emergencies. The tournament is organized by the republican state-public association "Belarusian Volunteer Fire Society", the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Belarus, and Belgosstrakh. -0-
