The residence of the Cherry Queen will be opened in Glubokoye

During the "Cherry Festival" in Glubokoye, which will take place from July 17-21, the residence of the queen of the popular berry will be solemnly opened, Lyudmila Karnilovich, Head of the Department of Ideological Work, Culture and Youth Affairs of the Glubokoye District Executive Committee, told a BELTA correspondent.

Creative groups from six countries will come to the forum, and with official delegations, there will be more guests. These are Lithuania, Latvia, Russia, Poland, Ukraine, France, and Georgia. As last year, participants will plant oaks in the "Oak Grove of Friendship".

The first days will precede the main events of the forum. Thus, today, after the grand opening, the Day of Public Associations will begin: thematic and charity platforms will operate, and a concert program will be held.

"Many festival events have a charitable purpose: we are raising money for the needs of sick children. On the first day, the 'Saving Cherry' campaign will take place. All funds earned by artisans, organizations, and trade unions will go towards children's treatment. Also, during the campaign, public associations will talk about their good deeds to attract more people to these events," said Lyudmila Karnilovich.

The second day will feature the Day of Sport with a sports competition among leaders and employees of institutions, organizations, and enterprises of the district, music, bodybuilding, and beach volleyball. One of the exciting events will be a snail race.

All fans of quests, drift, and auto shows are invited to the Youth Day on July 19. Activities will take place on several platforms: in the city center and the House of Culture. In the evening, a musical non-stop will start, continuing until late at night.

"The main events are scheduled for July 20 and 21. The most popular among spectators are the theatrical performance, the ethno-party, the accordionists' competition (the Grand Prix prize is a cherry-coloured accordion), the "Cherry Wedding" marriage registration, and the concert of foreign ensembles. A free concert will also be given by Yulia Lebedenko, a graduate of the Vienna Conservatory. And, as tradition dictates, a festive procession with the participation of the Cherry Queen will take place from the monumental decorative sculpture "Hlybotskaya Vishnya" to the central stage. By the way, this year the Queen's own residence will be solemnly opened – it is a large house shaped like a cherry blossom with five rooms on the shore of Lake Kagalnoye, inside which stands a bust of Boleslav Lapyra, the creator of the popular cherry variety. Next to the residence, two forged trees will appear – one will depict the coats of arms of the twin towns of Hlybokaye, and the second will feature the flags of the festival's participating countries," added the head of the district executive committee department.

During the festival, a new children's playground will be opened, and the final of the international beauty pageant "Miss Extreme" will be held. At the gardening conference, specialists will share the results of their research and discuss current issues.

In 2012, the "Cherry Festival" project of the Hlybokaye district took second place in the Republican competition of creative works for the promotion of cities and regions of Belarus at the III International Forum "Image of the Republic of Belarus: Time to Act". This event marked the beginning of the process of restoring the former honorary title of "Garden City" to the Hlybokaye region: cherry trees can now be seen in almost every yard in the city and district.
