This hope was expressed by the Chairman of the Polotsk City Executive Committee, Alexander Poznyak, during an online conference on the website of the Belarusian Telegraph Agency. "The construction of the maternity hospital cannot be delayed, as it is a matter of people's lives and health," emphasized Alexander Poznyak. "However, the progress of work is interconnected with the development of infrastructure around St. Sophia Cathedral. This is an area of about 10 hectares, where five buildings of the current Polotsk Central City Hospital are located, which need to be relocated. Hotels, administrative and economic complexes, a research center of Polotsk State University, a history museum, an archaeology museum, etc. will be located here. Therefore, it is important that the hospital departments are moved to other premises, and the maternity hospital and surgical department are moved to a new building, which is already under construction. Utilities have been laid, the foundation has been poured, piles have been driven... In a word, the work is ongoing." This year, approximately Br18 billion has been allocated to this facility from three sources of funding (Br9 billion from the regional budget, Br5 billion from the city budget, and about Br3 billion from the national budget). "This is not enough, as the entire building costs at least Br80 billion at current prices," noted the Mayor of Polotsk. He informed that the Governor of the Vitebsk Region, Alexander Kosinets, has instructed to additionally seek financial resources so that this facility does not become a long-term construction project and is completed in 2012-2013.
