The introduction of sanctions against Belarus may negatively affect economic cooperation between economic entities within the Customs Union and pose a threat to the economic security of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and the development of integration processes on the Eurasian continent. This is stated in the commentary of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in connection with the publication on March 11 of a joint statement by the governments of the three states, according to RIA Novosti. The document concerned joint actions of the three CU states in case of possible use of economic pressure or coercion measures by other states. "We call on our Western colleagues to refrain from attempts to exert pressure on our partners in the Customs Union.
