Since the beginning of the current day, Russian JSC Inter RAO UES has resumed electricity supplies to Belarus, BELTA was informed at the State Production Association Belenergo. Thus, the share of Russian electricity from June 13 has increased from 7% to the previous 12% in the country's daily energy consumption balance. It was at this level until June 9, when Russian JSC Inter RAO UES reduced electricity supplies to Belarus due to the Belarusian side's debt of 1.5 billion Russian rubles. It is recalled that on June 10, SPO Belenergo discussed with JSC Inter RAO UES the schedule for repaying Belarus's debt for Russian electricity. A Belarusian delegation headed by the General Director of Belenergo, Aleksey Shirma, travelled to Moscow for consultations with Russian specialists. Following the meeting, a payment schedule was signed, according to which the Belarusian side undertakes to pay off the debt for Russian electricity by July 5. It was also agreed that Inter RAO UES would resume electricity supplies from 0.00 on June 13. In 2011, Belarus intends to import 3 billion kWh of electricity from Russia under a contract with Inter RAO UES. Total electricity consumption in the republic in 2010 was 37.46 billion kWh, with 32.3 billion kWh generated by Belenergo's sources and 2.26 billion kWh by block power stations. Despite sufficient own energy capacities, Belarus imports electricity to diversify its fuel and energy balance, as well as based on economic expediency. -0-
